About Pahonia.net

Pahonia.net was created by a small group of people who speak Russian, Belarusian and Ukrainian and who have long-standing personal and professional ties to the region. We follow developments in Belarus, Russia and Ukraine in the original languages every day. Much of what we read never reaches wider audiences outside the region. When it does, it is often simplified, distorted or stripped of context. Our aim is to make important voices, events and debates accessible to readers who do not speak these languages — especially in the Western Balkans, where knowledge of the region is limited and public discourse is often shaped by Russian state propaganda and historical narratives rather than direct access to sources. We believe that societies living under repression and war deserve to be heard in their own voice.

Why This Matters
Eastern Europe today is not an abstract geopolitical space. It is a region marked by war, authoritarianism, exile, imprisonment and resistance. Millions of people in Belarus, Ukraine and Russia live under political repression and armed conflict.
Understanding what is happening requires more than headlines. It requires access to primary sources, local reporting and independent voices.
We translate and publish material we consider essential for understanding the political, legal and human reality of our countries. We do not claim neutrality between truth and falsehood. Our commitment is to accuracy, context and intellectual honesty.

Our Position
We are not a large newsroom and we are not funded by governments or political parties. This is an independent initiative built on language skills, regional knowledge and personal responsibility.
Our goal is simple: to prevent our region from being misrepresented, silenced or reduced to propaganda — and to allow readers beyond it to form their views based on original information.
